Fernweh (ger. an ache for distant places) is the opposite of the word ‚heimweh‚, which means longing for home. Fernweh means a painful desire to travel to new and distant places, an illogical longing for places we haven’t yet seen and people we haven’t yet met. Not to be confused with the word ‘wanderlust’, which means a desire to wander around the world to find your place.
